Full Moon: Sun and Moon at the Edge + Buddha Jayanti
Full Moon is on Wednesday, May 14th at 14:15 CDT in Libra and Vishaka nakshatra. Moon will be sandhi at the edge of Libra receiving direct gaze from a sandhi exalted Sun and Ketu in Aries. Yet another opportunity to revisit the same metaphors and challenges, lessons and reminders from the many previous months as Libra and Aries have been in the spotlight for month now. This full Moon is intricate as well as celebratory. It is Budhha Jayanti (also called Buddha Purnima), the celebration of Lord Buddhas birthday. Auspiciously, the celebration falls on a Wednesday this year, day of Mercury, the mind. May Lord Buddha's strength in mind and liberation of being ignite within us! Jai Buddha! What’s also interesting about this transit is the the placement of Sun and Moon. Both are delicate in degrees, poised for change and movement into the next signs (Moon to Scorpio and Sun to Taurus) just minutes and hours after the full Moon. This is yet another experience of the movement and change ahead for all of us, while also offering us a chance to look back over the previous many months and note what changes have occurred. We must look both internally (Moon) and externally (Sun) within our relationships and our experiences for issues that concern stability and balance, while also noting changes in our relationship to power and personal power simultaneously. This full Moon is in Vishaka nakshatra (Saturn, the planet of structure and grief has been here for months) and at the edge of changing signs at 29'51; very much in the gap (sandhi) heading into Scorpio its sign of debilitation. Moon moves to Scorpio just fifteen minutes later at 14:30 CDT. Vishaka is ruled by a dual god, Indra and Agni. They sit at the portal entrance and allow the transformational process of our offerings to take place. Offerings of nourishment, that then becomes potent and palpable to them, and in turn they make these offerings potent and palpable for us. We see this pair at work in yagyas and puja offerings. Whatever is offered on the altar, alchemically transforms and becomes nourishment for the gods, who then bless us with their protection and support. The mouth is another expression of "the portal entrance" and the altar of life. We can liken the "offering process" to eating as well; a very sacred act. The agni fires within the stomach are utilized for assimilation and digestion which in turn offers us life as a precious gift. The dynamic of Indra and agni is one of coexistence, alliance and mutual support. Indra represents the king and agni the servant to the king. Both are interdependent on the other and intimately connected. They represent this dynamic within all of our relationships and can teach us about working together and coexisting, even with our differences. The coming weeks will build on these themes of nourishment and support, helping us find new ways for growth and forward momentum. Don't expect to do this alone though. We may be finding new support systems in the process and cultivating new relationships and alliances for the movement, but nonetheless, this is a time of noticing the transformational abilities of connection. During the full Moon, Sun will be finishing its transit in Aries seven houses away; only hours away from changing signs to Taurus at 17:33 CDT. Sun will be in Krittika, interestingly ruled by Agni, the fire of life and the most potent tool of transformation and a powerful change agent. The theme of transformation is enlivened here. Agni brings us purification and clarity, if not with a bit of burning and heat. As mentioned above, it is Agni that is responsible for the alchemy of transformation and change; responsible for the alchemy process itself. He is also connected to Ajna chakra, the third eye, and since he is connected to the gods through fire offerings, we have access through him to higher realms, and expanded consciousness. On a very basic level, it is Agni that reminds us how very true the phrase is “we are what we eat”. For it’s our basic nourishment of food that creates our mind and thus our experience of life. Krittika is known to cut, is exact and sharp. Themes for the coming waning cycle include finding greater clarity on issues you’ve been mulling over, feeling uncertain about or struggling to find answers for. Expect a greater ability to step into your power more potently as a result of this clarity. These dynamics at play during the full Moon offer us purification and transformation. We feel this theme of transformation continued from the previous waxing cycle, the new Moon and solar eclipse, but now is the time where the real assimilation and nourishment takes place. The harsh realities that have arisen and settled in during the previous cycle, begin to make more sense now. The themes of change and transformation, clarity and insight will be potent themes in the coming cycle as the Moon begins its waning process and we turn our attention and intention more naturally inward. The other planets and the current nakshatras offer their influence on these themes as well, urging increased creativity and abundance, support and comfort. Expect passions to be high and emotions to be hot, however. Channel these effectively and let them propel you forward artistically, creatively and with purpose. He transits Taurus until June 15th. Sun joins Mercury in Taurus and is now out of the gaze of Saturn and Rahu. This transit should sharpen the mind and creativity as well as help bring more stability and comfort to us and our desires. This will likely include matters of the heart and pocket book. Keep the mind cool though and don't let the mental body run away with itself- or you. Mars retrograde right now has had us all retracing old action steps. Frustrations have arrived as we are walking over the same old ground. It feels familiar, yet we feel ready now to take bigger strides now; hence the frustrations. Retrograde Mars in Virgo has heightened our critique of this process. Yet Virgo can also offer ample creativity if we can touch in and harness it for momentum. This creativity will make the "retracing" worth the effort in the coming weeks. Luckily Mars finally goes direct on the 19th and will have us lurching once again- but this time in a forward direction. As Mars continues to move through Hasta nakshatra, Savitr requests an intuitive, introspective audit as we move with these old, familiar tides. If you don't pause, you'll miss it. Mercury finishes up its transit through Taurus and conjunction of Sun on 5.22 at 15:32 CDT, moving into its own sign of Gemini where it joins Jupiter there. A powerful transit of "increase" is upon us with this one. More knowledge, more wisdom, more understanding and more of all things Mercury. Expect money making ideas and desires to increase simultaneously. Don't let the mind run off with you. Reign it in. Being diligent this month with the mental body and meditation will be valuable and deepen your efforts and experiences with this transit. Following Mercury, Venus changes signs the next day. Moving out of its exaltation sign of Pisces and into Aries on 5.23 at 18:09 CDT. This is a particularly tricky junction as Pisces is the last sign of the zodiac and is a water sign, whereas Aries is the beginning of the zodiac and a fire sign. The symbolism here: endings and new beginnings, as well as starting anew. Venus will be feeling the pressure this month as he shares Aries with Ketu and also receives direct gaze (drishti) from Saturn and Rahu seven houses away as well as Mars eight houses away. A nice exchange between Sun and Venus occurs though as Sun transits Taurus (ruled by Venus) and Venus transits Aries (ruled by Sun). Heat, pressure and transformations are inevitable. We may feel this in our relationships, with our creativity, passions, artistry, and with our flow of money. We may get an increase of support and a greater feeling of power and possibility with this transit. However, as Venus joins Ketu in Aries, expect a purification of these areas of life to occur as well as a restructuring with all things Venus. This is the necessary preparation we need for the upcoming expansive changes. As Venus changes signs on June 18th and moves into its own sign of Taurus (a very stable placement for him), Jupiter moves Cancer, to its sign of exaltation, just hours later. Increase of stability and support are on their way! Use this transit of Venus to clear and purge in preparation for the influx. Remember that the more space you can create, the greater space you will have to fill! Read more about Jupiter's transit into Cancer. Jupiter moves to its sign of exaltation, Cancer, on June 18th, then Rahu and Ketu move in July to Virgo and Pisces respectively, and later this year Saturn moves to Scorpio. Likely you are already feeling the momentum and change of these transits. Needing some guidance and clarity for this coming year? Schedule a yearly progression with me. I am now booking sessions for June. Horoscopes for the Waning Moon Cycle {May 14th to 28th} *Horoscopes are based on your Vedic rising sign. You can also check your Moon and Sun signs for further insight. Do the same with your Navamsa signs for further clarity. Do not use these horoscopes with your “Western Sign” as there is likely no correlation. These horoscopes are meant to be used as a broad overview of the current transits and obviously do not address the specifics of an individual’s unique chart. Aries: All the love that you have been cultivating within you and all the self-care that you've been doing, has been re-filling your empty vessel. Keep it going. As Venus moves to your first house on the 23rd, you risk burning up all that you have replenished. Continue a solid and consistent self care regimen, attend to your own needs, and put Self love as your top priority. Work with themes of comfort, and nourishment. Attend to diet and exercise during this waning cycle and courageously iron out your mental kinks. As Mars goes direct on the 19th, you'll be ready to put your plans into action. Find new ways to help your self shine from inside to out. Taurus: As Bob Marley would put it,"The Sun is shining, weather is sweet. Make you want to move your dancing feet." You begin to shine a bit brighter now that Sun is in your 1st house, but as Venus enters your 12th house on the 23rd, use this as a reminder to slow down and retreat inward for rejuvenation. Even the tenacity of a Taurus requires a pause and reboot. Your retreat time will be rewarded with insights and new awareness, creative changes, and some necessary relationship reality checks. You will come up with a new way to work smarter, not harder, which will pay for it self in the long run. Surrender. The more you allow for meditation time, the more you gather and gain on an inner and outer level. Gemini: Your career has been on creative overflow autopilot recently. Where and how are you directing these tidal waves? You may have been relying on your past to dictate your actions, but it's now time to find new ways for momentum and growth. Open new channels of creative flow and let the channels of your heart swell. Sun is in your 12th house now and is asking you to find some time for necessary inner work. Hit the re-set button and take time for rest and rejuvenation. This is truly where the creativity is sourced so do your homework! Expect shifts to occur as a result- especially when Venus moves to your 11th house on the 23rd. Sparks create shifts and changes you've likely been craving but have been too afraid to act on. Here's your push! Mercury moves into your 1st house on the 22nd, allowing you to get all the clarity you need. Attend to the mental body though and don't get lost in the mind's ruthless over-expansion games. Cancer: Creative flow has been a great teacher lately and has offered some renewed comforts and support. Continuing to work with flow will be essential in the coming weeks as Venus moves to your 10th house of career; he will be with Ketu- the "restructuring" planet. Expect some changes with regard to creativity and relationships as well as how you respond to these. Learn and grow and connect with friends for support. Be courageous and move forward with your plans, even if you feel derailed at times; it's good practice to keep moving. When Mercury moves to your 12th house on the 22nd, meditation becomes your greatest ally and creative resource. Use this tool in the coming weeks to re-charge and get a sustainable edge. Leo: You and your career are on center stage. Can you feel the lights on you? As Mars goes direct on the 19th, you start a more progressive agenda. Mercury moves to your 11th house on the 22nd, uplifting your finances and mental clarity as well. Find ways to expand and clarify your work and creativity. How can these bring you more comfort and nourishment, increased finances and self expression? Creative sparks flare after the 23rd when Venus moves to your 9th house. You will be learning some valuable insights and tools in the coming weeks so take notes. Expect some relationship changes during the process. This is here to teach you a valuable lesson. Do you keep your cool or blow your top? Virgo: You are ready to share your wisdom. What have you been learning that is valuable to others? As Mars goes direct on the 19th, you start to think and move in a more positive, forward direction. Mercury moving into your 10th house of career on the 22nd (its own sign) gives this process a boost. Career creativity, support and assistance comes your way. Expand what you think is possible and ask for a raise. Relationships and your relationship to money and creativity, gets some restructuring after the 23rd. Let the inner awareness out of the closet. Work with themes of comfort, support and nourishment and seek answers for your needs. Be courageous with what you ask for and you might be very surprised with the outcome. Don't play small. Libra: I wish I could say you will get a break from the relationship work for a bit, but the themes continue. As Venus moves to your 7th house of relationships on the 23rd, expect a period of restructuring and change to take place with regard to who and what you relate to. You will also notice changes in how you relate. This is good for you, even if uncomfortable. Trust the process, but watch your temper. As Sun dips into your 8th house now, you begin a period of inner transformation that will likely have lasting effects on your ego. Surrender to your depths and find the courage to change, learn and grow. Allow wisdom and knowledge to seep into you and listen to the "teachers" all around you. Allow for a learning curve. Scorpio: Your efforts become more of a gain as Mars goes direct on the 19th. Share, create, express and take steps forward now. Relationships provide a sense of comfort and stability, albeit with some changes and restructuring simultaneously. Let some of your old guard down and invite in the joy of connecting for the sake of connecting.Trust your Self to know what you need and attend to your personal boundaries when necessary. Clean up your diet and gut and let go of sweets and bad habits. Your body will thank you and it will impact the clarity in your mind and intuition as well. Once Mercury moves to your 8th house, insights and mental brilliance are deep and profound. Pull from these roots and expand what is possible for your life, creativity, teaching and growth. People want what you have to offer. Don't be shy. Sagittarius: Clean up your act and get results. Diet, regimen and bad habits get a chance for change. Will it be for the better and will it last? Your gut is a powerful resource so listen up. Digest old experiences to help you move forward. As Mars goes direct on the 19th, forward momentum gets a boost and helps your digestion of life in the process. Get creative, get focused and get passionate. Take action on the things that matter most. As Mercury moves to your 7th house on the 22nd, your ability to connect in new ways and expand your career, both get a big lift. Be creative and connect with the right resources to get the job done. The benefits for your growth will be lasting. Capricorn: Creative courage moves towards heart courage in the coming weeks as Venus moves into your 4th house. Expect sparks and sizzles, changes and restructuring with your inner tides. What moves you and where is your creativity flowing? How can you share this new fluidity with others? Make your emotions a top priority at this time and work diligently with the emotional body. Creativity and passions move you. Move and be moved. Sync up with your heart and your gut. Where do these body parts intersect and how do they inform each other? Mind moves in a more forward direction as Mars goes direct on the 19th, let your plans and desires move forward as well. Aquarius: Chaos, storms and the strength of Rudra continue to provide you with ample lessons and they teach you about your own strength. As comfort and security becomes more established within you, this trust in your Self has a ripple effect on your life and relationships. Have you noticed? Let your heart swell a bit more and share your joys. Find the courage to work with your emotions and relationship wounds directly in the coming weeks. The light bulb will definitely be going off for you so pay close attention! You may find that what doesn't work in your relationships, is actually a very good teacher for you and can help you find clarity for what you do want. Let creativity drive you, propel you forward and help you launch. Intuition is on point once Mercury moves to your 9th house on the 22nd. Trust your gut. Pisces: Courage and creativity is sharp and laser focused. Necessary changes and momentum with relationships and connections get forward movement as Mars goes direct on the 19th. Watch what you say though, words are hard to take back. The heart and the mind sync up after the 22nd when Mercury moves to your 4th house. Use this for a stronger, creative edge and channel it effectively for maximum gain. Work with your inner storms and the ferocious strength you have access to right now. It's coming from a very dark place within you, but these shadows have much to share about your inner and outer spectrum. Don't neglect these offerings. Never miss your horoscope. Exalted Jupiter: A good thing? Or too much of a good thing? {Part 1}
Who is Jupiter and why does he matter? Jupiter (or guru in Sanskrit) is undeniably the most benefic planet. And though too much of a good thing is a real thing, most of us welcome his gracious behaviors at every turn. He is expansive, unlike Saturn who contracts. He wants peace, whereas Mars wants action and war. He brings knowledge and wisdom, learning from the scriptures, from teachers and from the grace of the guru. These are divine blessings indeed! Jupiter also relates to akasha (the space/ether element) and is therefore all-pervasive. He offers that level of expansion, the ever growing kind. The presence of Jupiter is peaceful, benevolent and he would rather win over his opponents with goodness, nonviolence and prayers, rather than fight, ruffle feathers or use violence of any kind. These are traits our society could use a lot more of these days. Fortunately for us, we will be seeing these blessings of Jupiter increase over the next twelve months as he moves to Cancer, his sign of exaltation, on June 18th. And since we haven't seen this transit occur in over twelve years (since 2003), we can each expect a unique boost in the coming months. (Jupiter's transits are roughly one year each and there are twelve signs in the zodiac, thus it takes twelve years for his full cycle around the zodiac). No matter the type of expansion and increase, for most of us, this will be of the delightful variety. Jupiter is of course connected to luck, grace, blessings, wealth as he is known for his generosity and giving. It is through sattva, purity, that Jupiter gives his blessings; all things pure like dharma, truth, and the light of pure knowledge. As devaguru (teacher to the gods) he guides us to the higher realms and empowers the positive tendencies of the mind. He has the ability to transform the asuras (demons) within us with his pure and persuasive wisdom. As the Mundaka Upanishads state so aptly, Satyameva Jayate, truth alone triumphs. What Can We Expect From Jupiter's Exaltation This Year? Each transit is very much an individual experience as each jyotish chart is a unique, highly complex organism (as expressed in each unique individual on the planet!) And though Jupiter's exaltation will effect us each in very different ways, there are some unified experiences that will be felt for us as a whole. It is important to note though that even something like expanding wisdom and knowledge, is not always comfortable- especially if it makes your old ways and habits obsolete and highly uncomfortable. For others, Jupiter's exaltation may provide too much support, and may cause issues as a result. We all know that even winning the lottery has multiple down sides and too much sugar rots your teeth and gut. Wherever Jupiter shows up there is increase and expansion. He encourages that growth as any good teacher would. If he sits with Venus, creativity and relationships tend to prove helpful and expansive. If he sits with Mercury, writing, mental growth and communication are given wisdom for increased success. Issues arise, however, when Jupiter sits with Rahu. Rahu, the north node/shadow planet and Mr. Mischief, ruins Jupiter's spiritual leanings and pristine tendencies. Rahu is chaos and deception whereas Jupiter is truth and honesty. Their energies oppose each other. Look at your chart to see what values might increase in the coming months for you based on what planets Jupiter is connected to in your natal chart. When looking at your own chart, first locate the sign of Cancer. This is where Jupiter will be effecting you the most intensely over the coming months. What house is Cancer in and do you have any natal planets there that will effect the transit as well? Will he be transiting your first house? Expect a spectrum of increased self wisdom, personal growth and people to notice this. Is he transiting your tenth house? He will offer extra support and expansion with your career whether you want it or not! And since all of us are working with the theme of balance right now as Saturn and Rahu transit Libra, the increases of exalted Jupiter will provide yet another opportunity for each of us to achieve some new sense of personal balance and harmony as a result of all the extra comfort, support, expansion etc. And that is indeed a good thing! Cancer is a sign of heart and emotion. It is connected to the fourth house and therefore is connected to all matters of the fourth house as well. This includes land, home, heart, mother, emotions, moksha, happiness, heart, lungs and the chest. When Jupiter exalts here he amplifies these parts of ourselves and can provide us with support in these areas. But because Jupiter is also Kapha, heavy, and connected to the lubrication within the body's channels, we also have to be mindful of the "too much of a good thing" reminder on a physical level as well. Too much dairy, can cause excess phlegm or excess kapha dosha. Too much fat can clog the arteries and channels that lead to the heart. Excess phlegm in the lungs can cause a chest cold or pneumonia. These are excesses to be aware of during this transit. It is interesting to note that the emotions and the heart play a predominant role in our health and well being. Since Cancer is also ruled by the Moon (Cancer is its own sign), many themes connected to emotional health and well being will be enlivened this year. With Jupiter in Cancer, we will each have an opportunity to grow emotionally, expand our heart and emotional capacity, and to find a new inner wisdom with the emotional body- if we choose to listen and expand in this direction. This is an exciting idea for moon-centered beings like myself! The overall experience of Jupiter is progressive, forward moving, expansive and supportive. There will be about four months where he retrogrades (an exalted planet in retrograde motion is considered debilitated) and this will be a time period of "emotional cleanup" we could say. Since all the major planets are moving this year, we are in for growth and change on multiple levels. Jupiter moves June 18th, followed by the shadow nodes, Rahu and Ketu July 12th. We still are working with an unusual dance of retrograde and direct Mars moving between Virgo and Libra until September. Finally, we will see perhaps the most major shift of all occur when Saturn moves to Scorpio November 2nd. The planets remind us that life is in constant flux and flow, and life changes are inevitable- which is why I'm offering Creative Ritual workshops to help us navigate the transits. My exalted Jupiter workshop is all about navigating our emotions and the physical correlations of this transit while using Jyotish insights to further our embodiment process. Moon is exalted and in its mulitrikona sign of Taurus from 3.6 to 3.8.
There are three planets simultaneously in retrograde motion for the next 3 days: Jupiter, Saturn and Mars. Jupiter goes direct on the 6th which starts forward momentum with all things Jupiter in Gemini. We can expect a march forward this month (pun intended) that provides us with expansion and intelligence in the realms of Mercury: creativity, commerce, communication. With Jupiter still in Ardra nakshatra, ruled by Rahu, these trends come in worldly and externalized forms which a fair amount of cravings and "insatiable appetite" for change and movement. Read more about Jupiter in Gemini. This week may feel especially intense with the simultaneous retrograde motion of three major planets. We are each symbolically and literally re-shuffling our own decks. Kicking up dust. Internal winds blowing back in the unsettling past. Mental, emotional and physical bodies are feeling the return to the past. Nature and her cold, blustery temps concur. Be with what is. Don't resist. Move with these tides; let them move you. Use this time to sit with the discomfort and trust that new opportunities, options, ideas, choices, opportunities will come next. And so the cycles go. I have discussed the incredible waltz of Mars in the recent weeks and his movement in and out of Virgo and Libra. Retrograde, he is now moving back towards Virgo and re-enters on the 25th. As of right now he is pulling that Virgo energy into his dance which gives an extra essence of Mercury (Virgo's ruler). Use good communication at this time to express your needs and healthy boundaries. Being clear about expectations is very important right now. Read more about the unusual dance of Mars until September. There is a flurry of energy in Libra right now with Retrograde Mars, Rahu and now Retrograde Saturn. The Mars and Saturn energy can create a frustrating stop/start experience that can feel like grande "lurches" with forward momentum and then complete stops. This mixture combined with Rahu and Saturn here as well can heighten the frustration levels. Rahu and Saturn together create a "storm energy" associated with Rudra, a powerful storm god who is connected to weather. We have been experiencing this stormy weather within our internal landscape as well as our external landscape for months now because of their conjunction. Now that Saturn is retrograde, there is a greater emphasis on the physical body; a demand of sorts. A unique perspective of Jaimini jyotish dictates that when an exalted planet goes retrograde, it becomes debilitated. Saturn in Libra is considered exalted, retrograde now, and thus debilitated. He is also giving direct drishti to his sign of debilitation, Aries. The results of this will vary individually, but the overall effect will be a slowing down of systems, structure and a greater request from Saturn to focus on, well, all things Saturn. Saturn loves routine, gives prosperity with time and consistency, wants meditation, physical movement and hard work. He rules the physical structures of life (time quite literally) and within the body this means bones and muscle tissue. Until Saturn goes direct on July 20th, we may notice increased physical fatigue, depression, heightened worry, a need to focus on our physical body more directly- either through awareness or force. We will also be "re-structuring" areas of our life that involve relationships, creativity, nourishment, receptivity, vulnerability, business and commerce, contracts and obligations, boundaries and balance. Leave it to retrograde Saturn to help us re-purpose and resolve what is not working in our best interest. Remember that if there is excess pressure from his means and ways, it is likely a place we need to look for a resolution. Ask: What is working? What is not? What do I need? What needs to shift right now for greater harmony and balance? Where am I pushing too hard? What am I resisting and where am I not letting life flow? If you are curious about his movements through Libra, you can read my articles on his transits here: Part 1: Rahu and Saturn in Libra Part 2: Saturn Retrograde + the Influence of the Nakshatras For increased awareness, utilize my jyotish inspired Body-centered Expressive Art Therapy articles. Each week I post a new Creative Engagement Activity to help inspire your own unique creative process, Self-tracking, and to enrich your cultivation of presence. This week we will revisit an activity that has to do with "stopping and starting". I am now booking sessions for April. Schedule a yearly progression with me in order to make your New Year a truly transformational year and to make the most out of the current transits. *Horoscopes are based on your Vedic rising sign. You can also check your Moon and Sun signs for further insight. Do the same with your Navamsa signs for further clarity. Do not use these horoscopes with your “Western Sign” as there is likely no correlation. These horoscopes are meant to be used as a broad overview of the current transits and obviously do not address the specifics of an individual’s unique chart. Aries: Your week starts with heat and intensity; a general theme for you right now. Too many irons in the fire? Pushing too hard? Being unrealistic about how much you can accomplish? Setting expectations too high? All of the above? What can you take off your plate? This is a time to re-evaluate relationships- to others and to Self. Make changes. Taurus: Get smart about your plumbing. Internal systems need a good scouring, purging and reconstruction. Old goop in the lines is clogging up your inner messaging system. Right now is a good time to cleanse (gently and in tune with Saturn), to pacify and nourish your physical body and outsmart some old, bad habits. Clean up, clean out. Gemini: Creative calamity can be fuel for creative endeavors. As the storms brew and test your intellectual strength and resolve, remember that balance is the number one priority right now. Build your empire with small, calculated actions. Make connections that fuel your creativity and bring inspiration. What do you need to thrive? What does thriving look like to you? Feel like? Pull from your depths. Cancer: The week brings some shifts to career. Insights? Or upheavals? Re-evaluate and re-visit what nourishes you. What brings support? Grounding? Stability? Structure? What makes you feel emotionally safe? What is not working right now? Use the weekend for inner work and create time for meditation. Leo: Outsmart your Self by putting in place some clear, healthy boundaries. You may find opponents lose their power over you suddenly. Voila! Your ability and courage to take charge of your actions and experiences has a direct impact on you and your well being. Get rid of what is not working by getting clear on what doesn't work for you. Virgo: Let your voice be heard. Practice by talking to your Self. Sing in the shower, make mental notes aloud, have conversations with your body parts. Get used to hearing your Self express and converse loud and proud. This is practice for cultivating a deeper relationship with your needs. Think big and let your imagination take you there. The shrinking violet days are over. Libra: Attention: Chaos and reconstruction taking place. Wrap your Self in caution tape and lay low if possible this week. Boundaries or boundless? Quiet or restfully alert? Heart throb or heart ache? Traverse your mind like a Jedi. Sift and sort while standing in one place. Find grounding through legs and feet. Practice standing on one leg. Less is more. Scorpio: Cutting losses and letting go begin with your energetic attachments. As you tally the endings in your life and all that is falling away, ground into the trust that a new structure and support system is on the other side. By cutting and releasing what needs to change, what isn't serving you, opportunity arises. Let there be space for your own greatness; greater health and wholeness that inspires magic. How much space are you allowing to open up? Sagittarius: As Jupiter begins forward momentum, you re-visit some emotional wounds and physical needs. The transits are helping you clear and clean up your depths; what is nourishing and what is not. How are you nourishing your Self? What are you ingesting? Who and what are you allowing in to nourish you? Be very direct and calculated with your needs. Keep a clean diet and clean company. Watch your mouth and speak the sweet truth. Capricorn: Moving and shaking. Shaking off dust and mental debris. Digesting old pieces, past, memories. It's ok to rest in softness, in the mild, in the gentle. Yet, career is pushing forward, forcing you to re-visit the body, your finances, and the keys to your self-reliance and self-support. Keep walking in circles. You never know what might turn up. Aquarius: Deja vu? You should be revisiting some old tendencies, memories, relationships right now. This is happening on an internal level as well as literally. What are these inner and outer landscapes telling you? How do these remote locales inform your life process and the journey of relating? Releasing? Remembering? Look through the cracks in your facade and let the light seep in. Pisces: Retreat mode continues. Whether you are living in an ashram or just pretending, the metamorphosis continues to work its magic on you. A lot of emphasis is put on the emerging butterfly and how magnificent that is. That may be, but right now you are still in the chaos of the change. The discomfort of transformation and endings. Late in the week your mental/emotional body begins to move forward. Soak in the feelings of nourishment and support at every turn. Seek stability and grounding. Moon is waning (Krishna Paksha) and transits Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and into Pisces this week. New Moon is on 3.1 at 2:00 am CST. New Moon will be in Aquarius and Satabisha nakshtatra with the Sun there as well. More on this below.
For a jyotish Moon-centered approach to your day, follow my daily Moon Mind posts via Face Book. Beyond having the New Moon occur, this is an extraordinary week planetarily in several ways. Venus changes signs and moves to Capricorn, Mercury goes direct, Saturn and Mars both begin their retrograde movements and we celebrate Shivaratri all in one week! We will feel these shifts both on the inner and outer levels of life, but the experience of Shivaratri requires an extra special pull towards the inner. Use this time to stop and get silent. New Moon in Satabisha Nakshatra in the wee hours of 3.1 reminds us to pay close attention to our health, be vigilant in attending to the needs of the Self- with compassion, devotion and a certain conviction. Keep this focus on the Self, rather than projecting on others, which can lead to criticism and harsh judgments. Moon and Sun in Aquarius and Satabisha receive drishti from both Jupiter and Rahu. Though Jupiter's benevolence usually trumps all, he is currently transiting Ardra nakshatra which is ruled by Rahu. Additionally, Satabisha is ruled by Rahu and Rahu itself is currently transits Swati nakshatra- also ruled by Rahu. In other words, there's four levels of Rahu's influence on this placement. Rahu brings cravings, shadowed thinking and misconceptions. On the flip side, he can bring worldly gains, momentum and monetary wealth. The coming weeks will show themselves to be a bit of both. Pay special attention to overuse of alcohol, intoxicants and drugs, overworking, being overly competitive and excessively forceful. This is a time that can offer us what is "not best practice" in our behaviors and patterns, in order for us to correct and re-direct towards more harmonious options and choices. Look for ways to get support and needs met in more sustainable, life supporting ways. Venus moves to Capricorn on 02.25 at 23:57 CST where it joins retrograde Mercury there and also a sandhi Moon there at that same time. With the drishti of Mars on these planets, sparks fly and mental creativity is at an all time high. Use the coming weeks to shine- just don't burn your Self out!! Best practice at this time will be to follow the orders of Saturn (slow and steady wins the race and mind your routine/Self care practices), stay in tune with the Laws of Nature and ethics for best results. Act on dharmic endeavors. Make your dreams come alive with action steps. Shivaratri begins on the eve of the 26th here in the USA (13th tithi) and continues through the 14th tithi (Chaturdashi) on the 27th, followed by the culmination of the waning cycle (15th tithi) on the 28th and a climax of the New Moon during the wee hours of the 1st. This is a marking of time that is profoundly connected to inner silence and stillness. It is within the stillness (the Absolute) that all creativity and the potential for creation exists. Shiva brings this silent potential to us before the fertility of Holi (on 3.17) and the expansive growth of Mother Divine (Vasant Navaratri or the Nine Days of Mother Divine beginning on 3.31) awakens the abundance of nature within us and around us. A special New Moon, this is one that Shiva resides over; one that marks the beginning of a new cycle. He offers protection and wisdom to us and reminds us of the spectrum of life which includes both death, chaos, and change, as well as eternal freedom and enlightenment. From this "death", comes life, re-birth and new growth. There is a certain depth possible at this time that can be powerful and potent for one's personal growth. Meditation is essential at this time. Honoring Lord Shiva at your altar with prayers, offerings and chanting will bring him near. Carve out sacred time to be with him- in your silence, meditation and introspection. In addition to Shivaratri, Mercury goes direct early in the morning on the 28th. Mercury marches forward now and we may feel that momentum, however, Jupiter is still retrograde (until 3.6) and the week closes with two of the other major planets going retrograde- Saturn and Mars. Though retrograde Mercury doesn't bring the calamities most like to blame him for (Read more about Mercury Retrograde here), Saturn and Mars will offer some of their own challenges. Currently Saturn and Mars are in Libra with Rahu there as well. If you've been keeping up with the transits (or my articles), this combination is a powerful storm of sorts. All three of these planets are moving a lot this year and since they are each associated with action, together they point to big change, big momentum, big movement. Saturn goes retrograde on 3.2 and dances "backward" until 7.20. Saturn is considered exalted in Libra, however, when an exalted planet (uccha) goes retrograde, it is considered debilitated (uccha banga). Debilitated Saturn can effect our physical well being, might cause us to push too hard, overwork, over strain. There can be health issues if we don't follow his requests (Ayurvedic principles are an excellent resource for "being in tune with Saturn"). As Shiva is connected to Saturn, see if this time of Shivaratri can offer you some insights that may have otherwise been missed. You will have to turn towards the silence in order to hear them though. This is a good time to prune, cut back on the unnecessary, and look for energy leaks in your life. Get simple. To read more about this transit of Saturn, revisit my Saturn and Rahu in Libra articles. Mars and his unique movements between Virgo and Libra this year get a jump start on 3.1 as he goes retrograde. He barely entered Libra and is just over the three degree mark, yet is now starting his movement back towards Virgo. The planet of action is requesting that we re-collect ourselves and take action wisely. I discuss this odd waltz of his in my Mars article. For increased awareness, utilize my jyotish inspired Body-centered Expressive Art Therapy articles. Each week I post a new Creative Engagement Activity to help inspire your own unique creative process, Self-tracking, and to enrich your cultivation of presence. Revisit my past articles for inspiration. It is a big year with multiple {major} planetary changes. We will experience the changes of Jupiter, Rahu and Ketu, Saturn and unusual movements of Mars all in the next eleven months. Big changes are in store for each of us! Feeling uncertain about your action steps? What needs to change in order for growth? What kind of support you need? Schedule a yearly progression with me in order to make your New Year a truly transformational year. I have two sessions still available for the end of March. I am taking a short pause this week with an intention of more listening and receiving; aspiring to cultivate a "less is more" approach with extra rest, more attention to my needs and to Saturn mixed with some very intense work. Horoscopes will resume shortly. Thank you! Moon is waxing (Shukla Paksha) and transits Pisces, Aries, Taurus and into Gemini this week. Moon is exalted on 2.07 and transits its Mulitrikona sign (Taurus) on 2.08 and part of the day on 2.09.
For a jyotish Moon-centered approach to your day, follow my daily Moon Mind posts via Face Book. This week kicks off a fascinating waltz of the signs. As I've written about in quite a few of my posts and articles recently, there will be an intricate dance of the planets this year with multiple unusual retrograde cycles happening simultaneously. Lots of overlapping changes happening all at once. This cosmic dance of planets really brings to life the interwoven web of this existence and the intricate network of movements, changes, stops and starts that life presents us with. To me, the metaphor of a "dance" is really the most descriptive way to explain the fancy footwork of the planets at this time. Mars moves to Libra on 2.04 and will join Rahu and Saturn there. He will be sandhi this week (in weak degrees transiting the gap between signs). This will bring experiences on the inner and outer levels of stops and starts- with a bit of chaos and shadow mixed in. Think: lurches. Lurches feel frustrating so I've created a special Creative Engagement activity with this in mind. He won't be in Libra for long before he retrogrades back into Virgo. You can read all about his unusual transits back and forth between Virgo and Libra for the coming year in my current Elephant Journal article Mars as the Karma Yogi and His Unusual Transits This Year. Saturn is also sandhi right now, inching towards the edge of Libra, but will soon do a retrograde of his own. Suffice it to say, Saturn is requesting us to mind his manners right now as he "weakens". This usually results in his brut force and an insistence that we attend to our lives in a more harmonious Saturn way. We may feel more fatigued at this time, some depression could set in; in general a desire and need to draw our focus inward and slow down will present it self. He likes meditation, yoga, structure and to be in tune with the rhythms of Nature. Use these tools to listen to Saturn's messages and he will grant you more stability and grounding. It is actually good timing with the rest of the retrograde motions which require and request we pause, re-evaluate, re-adjust and retrace our steps more consciously and intentionally. As per usual, Saturn has our best interest in mind. If you are curious about his movements through Libra, you can read my articles on his transits here: Part 1: Rahu and Saturn in Libra Part 2: Saturn Retrograde + the Influence of the Nakshatras In keeping with the theme of flux and change with retrograde and forward momentum- very much alive in the planets in the coming weeks and months- Mercury begins his retrograde movement on 2.06 and will be moving backwards for the greater part of February. Despite the common dire predictions associated with Mercury retrograde, I am rather looking forward to his backward dance. I offer a different perspective in my latest article Mercury Retrograde, It's Not What You Think. Jupiter is still retrograde as well and moving back through Gemini- currently in Ardra nakshatra. Here is an article I wrote months ago on his transit through Gemini and how his retrograde movements will impact each sign. Jupiter in Gemini: Expanding Our Creativity Plenty of Mercurial delights and introspection offered above through my articles! Each week I post a new Creative Engagement Activity to help inspire your own unique creative process, Self-tracking, and to enrich your cultivation of presence. This week's activity has to do with "stopping and starting". If you have been uncertain about seeking guidance and support for the coming year, I urge you to reach out and get help refining your vision for 2014. Intention is potent! Aries: Start looking for gains in unusual places; this may be connected to returning friendships and relationships. Father and early childhood could inform these insights. Both work and personal relationships are re-presenting themselves. Career is super charged at this time; use thoughtful action steps and courage to close the deal. Watch your mouth and try not to get overheated. Avoid rushing into relationships right now in order to avoid getting burned. Learn from past gains and losses. Taurus: Creative offerings are presenting themselves from your depths. Teaching, sharing and offering your Self in new and different ways can be helpful. Father, emotions, heart, home and mother may lend some insights. Work on digestion, assimilation, processing bad habits. Being in service is your best resource right now. Gemini: Your expansion in reverse continues. Do you know where you are going or has confusion set in? You may be doubting your Self and feeling uncertain about direction. Clearing and cleaning your gut will help with intuitive (gut) responses. You're in a rest phase. Stand still. Get the most out of your recharge with yoga, meditation and the creative arts. Cancer: Your mind has some intuitive strengths right now, but slowing down to hear these messages is important. Passions are high, desire is strong, emotions are somewhat tempestuous and charged. Seek stability, comfort and support in your relationships, home life and with family matters. Regardless let these details inform your needs. Learn from the past and what hasn't worked in your favor in this regard. Leo: Cleanse and cleanup some old habits, share and offer these findings through service. Creativity, intuition and the gut can help you with your findings and are a resource at this time. Create, connect, share and take bold action in new ways. But look before you leap. Virgo: Say what needs to be said. Go ahead, blurt it out. You may end up sparing your Self some headaches in the long run. This vocalization is about boundaries and feeling like you can express your needs and wants effectively. Singing can help open the throat chakra. Go ahead, sing your desires and comfort your own soul. Libra: The storms rage on for you Libra. Carefully navigate anger and rage, passion and drive or you will burn your Self out quickly. This is a good time to use these pieces for growth and learning, rather than letting them rule you. Use anger and passion in your creative processes and let them invoke and stoke your fire of life. Stay out of blame and victim-hood. Learn from your cravings, wants and desires. What are your greatest needs? Who and what needs to be cut free and let go of for different results? Scorpio: Transitions, releases, and letting go are effective strategies for you right now. You may feel a sense of urgency to act- especially with career. Some frustrations may arise and things may go slower than you like, but act anyway. Make sure the cart is not before the horse. Romance and passion are stoked. Tend your heart fire- even if it's only mental right now. Remember to ask for what you really want and don't settle for the old ways and old days. Sagittarius: Watch what goes in and out of your mouth. Don't over indulge on sweet and alcohol. Relationship and heart matters may be more soothing now, but you are still working on these pieces: giving/receiving, gains/losses, attraction/repulsion, keeping/letting go. Listen carefully: What's working well? What is not? Take an action step. Just pick a direction and let the arrow go. Capricorn: You are gaining momentum and drive towards goals. You are learning to offer and share your Self in new ways which assists your career. Your light is shining from your depths and others are noticing. Continue to speak your mind and find new ways to do so. Teach, create, inspire. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. Aquarius: Re-learn, revise, re-listen. Stop, slow down and integrate the messages fully. This is a powerful time of learning, growth and awareness. Did you get all of that? As you power down the drive and the rushing forward, power up your senses and sensibilities. Teach, advise, share. Learn as you go, but trust your instincts. Pisces: Clean up continues for you in all corners of your life. Remember to look under the furniture for dust bunnies as well as vacuuming cracks and crevices. Digest, purge, rummage, release, transform and transcend. It is good for your heart and home; tangibly and metaphorically. |
